The rising of the sun had made everything look so different—all the colors and shadows were changed—that for a moment they didn't see the important thing. Then they did. The Stone Table was broken into two pieces by a great crack that ran down it from end to end; and there was no Aslan.

"Oh, oh, oh!" cried the two girls, rushing back to the Table.

"Oh it's too bad," sobbed Lucy; "they might have left the body alone."

"Who's done it?" cried Susan. "What does it mean? Is it more magic?"

"Yes!" said a great voice behind their backs. "It is more magic." They looked round. There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

—From The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Chapter Fifteen, by C.S. Lewis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is probably one of my favorite books of all time. Well, that and the rest of the Chronicles of Narnia. So when I decided to do some fanart of it needless to say it was a difficult choice coming to just one subject to draw. Naturally the Dawn Treader was an appealing subject, and for a while I was quite set on doing something from The Horse and His Boy, or perhaps Prince Caspian. But in the end I decided to fall back on what is, I think, one of the most memorable scenes from any piece of fiction: Aslan's resurrection.
And it is only fitting, I believe, as this is the only part of the book (al the books) that makes me cry every single time I read it. Seriously, I cried when I was five, when I was fifteen, and I will probably be crying again when I'm twenty-five. Heck, I cried while I was drawing this. And damn, I'm starting to cry now...
But in Narnia no one thinks the worse of you for that, so...
The shading on the grass is just GORGEOUS! I love the way you've made it illuminated by the sun. And I always love the way you draw rocks...they look so realistic! My mum loved the Narnia books as a child and I've found some of her old drawings of Aslan :)
Thank you so much! I had fun with that grass. :)
Hey, that's funny about your mum. ^^ Mine loved them too, which was why she read them to me starting when I was four/five and couldn't read myself. ^^;
Awwww. Yeah I remember her reading them to me when I was little, too (my mum, not yours!) :XD:
The way you did Aslan's shadow over that grass is really good. That's what stood out to me first. I know I've already said it but you have a real knack for backgrounds :D
Pretty cool, I loved the whole Narnia book series, too. Think you could do a painting of the sleepy forest that leads to all other worlds from "The Magician's Nephew"?
I love the way Aslan's mane swirls into the sky, and his expression is just perfect! (sniff)
I think this is a wonderful addition to Narnia fanart. I just finished re-reading the series a few months ago (before starting The Arab Mind and then moving on to From Beirut to Jerusalem), the Chronicles of Narnia has always held a special place in my heart, besides being plain good books, by being the books I learned to read with.
I remembered when I was a lil' kid and I read these lines, I jumped and cheered :w00t:. Drew attention from the neighbors. I still silently do so now.
I like how you made the sky so it seems like everything is bursting from Aslan, and the smile.
