Professor Hollins is sadly indisposed. Afternoon lecture to be given by Professor Odd instead. Bring a protractor.*
And be ready for anything.
Where to begin? I've been watching a lot of Doctor Who lately, it (along with some other things) inspired me to create this lot: Presenting Professor Odd (she's the one with the scarf and pink wig). She's got class. She's got style. She's got a laser pen (pictured) and a sword cane with a banana-shaped handle (not pictured). She's also got a ship called the Oddity that allows her to travel between universes and alternate realities. This is how she has come to pick up her current crew: her best friend and confidante Elo Marhutz, the anthro dog/wolf; junior assistant Mr. Alister Bane, the displaced college student; and Dave, the green tentacle monster.
I drew this picture while at the same time writing the first ever Professor Odd story, which ended up clocking in at just shy of 20k words and will definitely be featured on my Podcast (once I get it up and running).
[8.24.2011 EDIT]This picture is now the official cover art for the eBook version of the story, now available on the Amazon Kindle store! So exciting![/EDIT]
I was very much inspired by the old '60s style pulp science fiction covers in this, and also the Fiber Bundles number from Animusic 2. The nebulae in the background were referenced from the Helix and Eagle Nebulae (specifically the famous "Pillars of Creation" picture).
I think I used just about every single pencil in my pencil box, doing all those colors. And I listened to Bad Romance about a billion times. XD
You know, all this time I thought the last quote of that poem was 'being a protractor'? Then I saw a comment on a Cracked article that made me think of this because I couldn't think of the reference (not having read Anathem), but I remembered YOU referencing it. And then I read it more carefully.
Or maybe my eyesight's just shite.

Hmm...how very intriguing. Puts me very much in mind of the character Professor Chronotis from Douglas Adam's "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". Not that I'm accusing you of ripping off anybody else's character ideas, I think it's brilliant what you've created here. But if you're familiar with Douglas Adams, his work or the aforementioned story and character, you'll know what I'm getting at. In any case, I should like to know where I can go to follow up on the adventures of this character of yours.
I haven't heard of Professor Chronotis, though I am familiar with Douglas Adam's Hitchhicker series.
The best way to keep in touch with the adventures of Professor Odd and Co. is to keep an eye on my journal, as her stories will be podcasted on a site which is currently under construction. However, when they are available I'll be posting updates there.
Of course, I may post more illustrations from her stories in this gallery.

Excellent! I'll be sure to take a look at this journal of yours at the first opportunity!
Oh, and I honestly do recommend that you find a copy of "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", it's the very thing for somebody that can appreciate an even mixture of classical science fiction and clever, irreverent comedy. Also, if you should find yourself pleased with that story, I would highly recommend looking up its sequel, "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul".

Dave takes a little getting used to. But they all wind up being best friends after they save each other's lives.
