Artist's CommentsHow many miles to Altairond? This is my latest colored pencil piece, and the first major landscape I have done in some time that I did without references. Inspiration came mostly from local scenery, particularly those spectacular clouds. The poem is a deviation from the children's nursery rhyme "How Many Miles to Babylon?" In the Rian (formerly Urian) mythology that I am creating, Altairond was the palace of the King of Birds, which was built in the sky of clouds and ice. Incidentally, the Traveller/Lonely Rider character has also been seen inHail to the Griffin King and Stairway to the Moon. Six days with Prismacolor pencils on 9"x12" illustration paper. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces.
