This is fanart from the book "Howl's Moving Caslte" by Diana Wynne Jones. After doing a deviantART search of "Howl's Moving Castle" and coming up with nothing but movie fanart I felt it was time to pay tribute to the book.
Anyway, here you can see Wizard Howl, AKA Soceror Jenkin, AKA Wizard Pendragon, AKA Horrible Howl, AKA Sylvester Oak, AKA you get the idea off over the moors above Upper Folding to do some lady hunting with his ill-fated guitar. You can see the castle in the background, all tall turrets and belching smoke. I have tried to keep it as close to the description in the book as possible, with the lumpy coal bricks and the small door in the side. I wanted to somehow stick Calcifer in the picture, but I guess I shall have to do another one just for him. I think he will rather like that. Howl is, of course, still in his "fantastical blue-and-silver suit". I admit I am not much for designing clothes, and I have no idea what "inlets" are, but still I think it looks like something Howl would wear.

Mixed media watercolors and colored pencil on matting board. Original size is a rather large 11"x14" and had to be scanned in two parts. Took a total of about six hours over three days.
It's so great to see "Howl's Moving Castle" fanart! I bought the movie, watched it several times, and JUST found out it was based on a book. So, I purchased the book, and will start reading it tonight!!!
Great job, Elrond-chan!!! I love Howl's pretty blue jacket!!! Loving the background!! You worked really hard on this, and it looks terrific!!!
Really, I've been a huge fan od Diana Wynne Jones about as long as I've been a fan of Miyazaki and when I found out about the movie I totally spazzed.
The ONE thing that bothered me was that so many people didn't seem to know it was based on a book! All the press is like "Miyazaki is wonderful!" "Miyazaki is amazing!" — which he IS — but the book is just as fantastic!
Thanks for the fave, and happy reading!

Didn't Diana Wynne Jones write another book that Miyazaki based a movie on? I wanna say yes, but for the life of my, can't remember. When I searched on Amazon, I know there were several other titles that popped up, and I was like, "Whoa...Miyazaki must like Diana's work!!"
I love the detail on the fields...they look awesome! The character is also very well drawn - I like the folds in his cloak. ^^ You have such a talent with watercolours!
Also, you like the castle? It's about as close to the book as I could make it.

Oh yeah! I think you might be remembering "Castle in the Sky", which was one of Miyazaki's first movies. (It's a very good movie, too!)
It's not based on one of DWJ's books, although she did write a book called "Caslte in the Air" which — get this — is actually a sort-of sequel to "Howl's Moving Castle". (!)
Just one of those kinky things.
