The Dragonridge Mountains, western edge, near Man's End.
The Dragonridge Mountains are an iconic location in my original fantasy-world (Antellonia), being a haven for dragons of all kinds, and distinctive in their bare, steep slopes. They were formed by an up-thrust of rock through the earth's crust, which is still rising today; because of this their geology is very different from the surrounding hills, and they would be a very attractive destination for geologists if it weren't for all the dragons.
In reality the vision for the Dragonridge Mountains came to me in a dream: I was in a stagecoach running beside these huge, spiky brownish mountains, and someone sitting next to me said; "Be careful, there are dragons there." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This painting was completed in 2007 for a since-abandoned project. It is oils on 16"x20" gesso'd masonite panel, and I only recently got around to scanning it. It has been very gratifying for me looking back on this painting, because I am still impressed with the way I managed to get that contrast of low-light and rainstorm with the bluish distances. As I recall, it took about eight days.

(Me, I'm not a huge fan of myself painting generally...)
I've only got a chance to oil paint once... I think I was too impatient.
